Copying a Dynamics CRM Worflow Process

Back to Blog Listing

This blog looks at how to copy a Workflow process in Dynamics CRM. The example uses Dynamics CRM 2011 but this should also work in 2013.

First of all you must select the process you wish to copy and ensure that it has been de-activated.

Screenshot - ensure process is deactivated

The "Activate As" value of the process should then be changed from "Process" to "Process Template"

Screenshot - change activate as value to be process template

Save this change and then "Activate" the template. This can be completed in the usual way by either viewing the detail of the process and clicking the "Activate" button or selecting the template from the list and then clicking the "Activate" button

Screenshot - activate template

At this point you can then choose to create a new process.

Set this process to have the same "Entity" value as that of the template and it should appear as an option in the available templates box in the lower half of the screen.

Choose the "Type" of process to be "New process from an existing template" and then check the template you wish to use

Screenshot - select the template when creating process

The newly created process now has all the logic and steps as that of the template

Screenshot - new process has all logic of template

To then return your template back to a workflow process then deactivate it and reset the "Activate As" value back to "Process" and save.
