Should businesses use social media?

Social Media can sometimes be seen a double edged sword for your business. It can be seen in several different perspectives as to how it could either make or break your marketing strategy. In one respect, Social Media provides a platform for businesses to connect and engage with your customers. Using Social Media as a springboard you can advertise for free and interact directly with your customers in a space in which they feel most comfortable. On the other hand, Social Media can be seen as a huge risk with potential for reputational damage.

Instead of the advertising and marketing being in the hands of the business, consumers now have the upper hand being able to respond via several different communication means. Due to the open nature of Social Media, your company’s successes stories, failures and risks are publically visible, discussed and shared globally amongst your target audience which could either help or hinder your company’s reputation.

We suggest embracing feedback, acting upon it to help benefit the business.  As such you have to proactively manage your social media channels on an ongoing basis.  People appreciate that things will go wrong form time to time. It is how you engage and respond to solve problems that will enhance your brand.

In conclusion, Social Media is a free method to access personalities and potential sales worldwide. The benefits of such, drastically outweigh the risks. We suggest you take the plunge, and embrace yourself into a worldwide market where your company can be discussed and promoted without spending a penny on marketing material. A worldwide audience is at your fingertips. Go on – Promote yourself.
