Web Content Management - Why Activedition?

Back to Blog Listing

Activedition is .net based CMS with a proven track record.  From large, complex government websites to simple campaign websites, the Activedition CMS successfully supports hundreds of websites, extranets and intranets.

This blog post looks at some of the key strengths of the Activedition CMS and why we use it to underpin a lot of the website projects we deliver:

  • Totally flexible template management facility.  This includes support for HTML 5 and CSS 3.  This allows  for the delivery of responsive websites, supporting desktop, tablet and mobile. The template manager and publishing system also supports centralised updates to the templates, ensuring that changes to the website look and feel can be applied across the site with ease. .
  • End users can edit pages directly from the website without having to access the CMS management interface.  This minimises training time for content contributors and means that users can get up and running quickly.  The focus for these users can therefore be on content editing and the features they need, not the content management interface.  In addition, any major browser/platform can be used for editing and this even includes editing on a tablet.
  • The CMS plug in architecture allows developers to extend the Activedition CMS powered website with client side and .net server side code. These tag (or web parts) can then be used as a resource across the site.  As a centrally controlled asset, they can be managed without having to be concerned about where they are used.
  • One of the major strengths of the Activedition CMS is its flexible Content Type model.  This allows the data requirements for the website to be modeled and structured content listings to be created with ease. For example, searchable listings for  News, Events, Publications, Courses, Case Studies, People, Members and more can all be delivered through the CMS. Each of the listings can have different templates applied, ensuring that the content can be presented to the designer's requirements. Multiple listings can be supported per content type, e.g. latest three news stories on the home page.
  • When integrated with Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Activedition becomes the ideal platform for presenting data on the web e.g. Events, Staff, Courses etc. This is facilitated by its flexible data modeling, ensuring that the CMS can be configured to support the presentation of data from any CRM entity.
  • The powerful CMS security model not only allows the lock down of content editing/publishing, but also gives control over which users and groups can access content. This facilitates member based websites / extranet / portals with no programming effort. When integrated with Microsoft Dynamics CRM, it provides a powerful web platform and provides a platform for CRM self service. As Contacts are added to CRM and allocated membership / permissions, it can control what they can access on the website.
  • Activedition is about more than web page presentation, with the inclusion of a form building facility that can be used for polls, surveys, feedback forms and more. The form builder includes Captcha support as standard, which can be turned on or off for each form.
  • Activedition supports a completely flexible site structure and navigation that can be maintained on an ongoing basis. It has also been proven to scale to sites with tens of thousands of pages. With built in content caching, it is also proven to support very busy websites with highly efficient content delivery.

If you are considering a website, extranet or intranet project on the Microsoft technology stack then we'd recommend that you take a look at this proven, scalable CMS. It's about more than just content management. It provides the platform on which to build your sites.
